A Quick Note From Bernth

Playing fast can feel exciting, but speed alone doesn’t mean much if the notes aren’t clean, in time, and clearly articulated. This is something I struggled with a lot early on. I could move my hands quickly, but I wasn’t truly in control of what each finger was doing, especially at higher tempos.

In this lesson, I want to show you a simple but extremely important concept that helped me clean up my playing: learning to feel each finger individually instead of gripping the fretboard with the whole hand. By removing that “support grip” and training true finger independence, synchronization improves naturally and accuracy increases, even when things get very fast.

This is not the most exciting or musical exercise, but it’s one of the most effective. Take your time with it, stay relaxed, and focus on awareness rather than speed. Once you can truly feel every finger, clean and controlled fast playing becomes much easier.
